Walk back in time and experience how War of 1812 Major General William Mills lived with his family in a home built in 1838. Listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, this Federal style house is the headquarters of the Mount Morris Historical Society, which tells and preserves the local history of Mount Morris. The brick Federalist house features many striking architectural and design features from a kitchen with an open hearth and bake oven to an elegant Cantilevered staircase with a double banister. There is a mini-museum on the second floor which details famous residents born in Mount Morris like John Wesley Powell, Mary Seymour Howell, and Francis Bellamy, the author of the Pledge of Allegiance. There are also numerous items on display from the archaeological dig from the 1990’s.
